Employment with Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska Working for Girl Scouts in Nebraska is a fun and rewarding experience. Every day you will see the influence of your work on girls who will one day be leaders in this world. We offer quality benefits, paid holidays, paid time off and a retirement plan. Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska is an Equal Opportunity Employer. History Girl Scouts of the USA was born on March 12, 1912 in Savannah, Georgia, when Juliette Gordon Low united 18 girls to form the first Girl Scout troop in America. For nearly 100 years, Girl Scouting has been based upon the principles set forth by Ms. Low, that girls develop their character and self-worth from the values we instill, the lessons we teach and the time we invest. In May of 2008, the five Girl Scout councils in Nebraska merged to form one council serving more than 25,000 members in a 92 county region. We are now able to extend more resources for programs and activities to girls throughout the state who have yet to experience Girl Scouting. The organization’s larger geographic span also presents more opportunities for volunteers and girls to interact with people from diverse backgrounds. Mission Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Programs Each Girl Scout program is designed to build self-confidence, creative decision-making skills and teamwork and follows the principles of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE). With the GSLE, girls discover who they are; connect with others in their community; and take action to make a difference in the world. Through Girl Scouting, girls develop strong values, social conscience and leadership abilities that they will use throughout their lives. Girl Scout Camps At any of the six Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska camp properties, girls can explore the environment and the natural world close to home. They learn about trees, animals, recycling, conservation and caring for our planet. Through adult-supervised activities such as the ropes challenge course, camping events and adventure trips, girls are challenged to learn about themselves, to test their physical limits and to work with other girls toward common goals. Spirit of Nebraska Staff and Leadership The Spirit of Nebraska council consists of almost 90 employees who are located throughout the state. The council is guided by a volunteer board of directors comprised of community leaders from different counties in Nebraska. Funding Financial support for the council’s operations and programming come from the sale of products through our product programs (including our Girl Scout Cookie Program), program fees and revenue from our council stores, We also receive funding from United Way contributions across the state, grants and donations from foundations, corporations and individuals who support the Girl Scout mission. |
